Bay Federal Credit Union employees and members raised $8,788 during their annual fundraiser for the Children's Miracle Network (CMN). These funds were matched by the CO-OP Network, a national credit union organization, bringing the total donation to $17,576. Bay Federal has raised over $150,000 for CMN since 1998. Many nonprofits have reported difficulties with traditional fundraising efforts; most blame the current economy reason for decreases in private and corporate donations. Knowing that donations may be hard to come by, Bay Federal employees were very entrepreneurial in their fundraising endeavors. One group of employees transformed their branch break room into an Italian restaurant where they cooked and served pasta to their coworkers. Another employee team collected $5 for a “build-your-own ice cream sundae” buffet. Employees from multiple branches held a rummage sale held in a branch parking lot. Monetary donations from members were also accepted in Bay Federal's eight branch locations. CMN is a non-profit organization dedicated to saving and improving the lives of children by raising funds for premier children's hospitals in every region of the country. 100% of Bay Federal's donations will be used to treat children at Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital and through the hospital’s community outreach dental and immunization programs.
