Bay Federal Credit Union Named 2009 Community Outreach Award Winner

Bay Federal Credit Union has been selected as the organization recipient of the inaugural 2009 Community Outreach Awards by the California and Nevada Credit Union League.
The Community Outreach Awards are presented to one individual and one credit union or organization, selected from dozens of nominations from California and Nevada credit unions. Winners are chosen on the merit of their work to improve financial education, promote the benefits of credit union membership, and raise awareness of diverse and underserved groups within their community.

Bay Federal Credit Union was the sole organizational recipient for the 2009 award in recognition of its breadth of community outreach and volunteer activities, education programs for children and adults, and membership awareness campaigns.

"I am very proud of the employees and volunteers who act on behalf of Bay Federal to provide strong support to local organizations and schools through donations and volunteerism,” said Carrie Birkhofer, President and Chief Executive Officer of Bay Federal Credit Union. “It amazes me that 100% of our employees have given so much of themselves to support the community and its people for six years in a row. Employees donate their own money and volunteer during their evenings and weekends throughout the year, providing thousands of dollars and hours to help local hungry families, cancer patients, school children, people with disabilities, and many others.”

Bay Federal Credit Union’s works of charity have not gone unnoticed in the Santa Cruz community. In 2009, the Credit Union was named Business of the Year by the Aptos Chamber of Commerce, received a Community Heroes Award from the United Way of Santa Cruz County, accepted a “Be the Difference” Award from the Volunteer Centers of Santa Cruz County, and was recognized as an exceptional employer by local nonprofits and government officials during National Disability Employment Awareness Month.
