How to figure out your Mobile Phone Email Address

Most mobile phones have the ability to receive short text messages, called short message service (SMS). SMS messages can be sent to mobile phones from any other mobile phone, e-mail address account, or from a form at the mobile phone provider's web site.

To send SMS text messages to a mobile phone, all you need is the mobile phone's email address. A mobile phone's email address is easy to figure out:

  1. Start with the phone's 10-digit telephone number. Do not start with a "1" in front of the area code, and do not use hyphens, parenthesis, periods, or any other special characters.
  2. Add the @ symbol
  3. End with the mobile phone provider's email format.

Here's an example of how to figure out your mobile phone's email address:

  • Say that Verizon Wireless is your mobile phone carrier, and your mobile phone number is 831.555-5555.
  • The email format for Verizon Wireless customers is <YourPhoneNumber>@vtext.com
  • Replace <YourPhoneNumber> with your mobile phone number
  • Your mobile phone email address is 8313450101@vtext.com

Here are a few examples of text message formats for several different mobile phone service providers. The mobile phone email address samples listed here are examples and may not be correct. Not all providers have been listed. To verify the correct format for your mobile phone service provider, contact your provider or visit their website.

AT&T Wireless <YourPhoneNumber>@txt.att.net
MetroPCS <YourPhoneNumber>@mymetropcs.com
Sprint Nextel <YourPhoneNumber>@messaging.nextel.com
Sprint PCS <YourPhoneNumber>@messaging.sprintpcs.com
T-Mobile <YourPhoneNumber>@tmomail.net
Verizon <YourPhoneNumber>@vtext.com

Bay Federal Credit Union offers BayFedOnline Financial Alerts as an optional service to help our members manage their financial accounts. Although we offer this service free of charge, fees may be assessed by mobile phone service providers for incoming text and/or email messages. We do not guarantee that messages sent by Financial Alerts will prevent negative account occurrences/transactions or service fees. The effectiveness of Financial Alerts depends largely upon individual set up preferences, message delivery reliability, and other variables that may be beyond our control. Unknown service interruptions and interference may delay or prevent delivery of messages, and there is no guarantee that set up preferences will trigger messages that will prompt effective user responses intended to avoid negative account occurrences and/or fees, or that messages sent to users by BayFedOnline Financial Alerts will arrive to an email or mobile phone in a timely manner. Therefore, it is important that users keep account records up to date, review account activity regularly, and that users do not rely solely on received messages to alert them to account occurrences that may result in fees.
