The safety and security of your private information is our highest priority.

Our security enhancement feature is a MultiFactor solution. It uses a combination of your member number/user name, password and biometrics to verify your identity when you login to BayFedOnline. Biometrics is the measurement of physical characteristics. This feature measures the rhythm of your keystrokes as you type. Since each person has a unique typing rhythm, this feature provides you with an additional layer of security.

In addition, BayFedOnline also features “Challenge Response Questions” as another means of verifying your identity. When you login to BayFedOnline, you will be asked to provide answers to five Challenge Response Questions you select from several provided choices. You will only need to establish your Challenge Response Questions and Answers once. If, for some reason, BayFedOnline is unable to verify your identity using your member number/user name, password and typing rhythm, the next time you login, you will be asked to provide an answer to at least one of your Challenge Response Questions.

Your Challenge Response Questions may be reset by contacting us at 831.479.6000, or toll-free at 888.4BAYFED, option 3.

Important Notice for Joint Account Holders
If you and your joint account owner currently utilize one member number/user name and password to access BayFedOnline, you should consider setting up individual user names and passwords. Otherwise, you will be presented the Challenge Response Questions each time you or your joint account owner login to BayFedOnline. If you wish to establish a new user name and password for your joint account owner(s), simply visit one of our branch locations, or call our Member Service Representatives at 831.479.6000 or toll-free at 888.4BAYFED, option 3.

Questions and Answers

Q: Why did Bay Federal Credit Union add this additional layer of security to BayFedOnline?

We’ve added this security enhancement to offer you an additional layer of protection against identity theft and unauthorized account access. Our goal is to ensure that you - and only you – can access your online accounts. Additionally, this enhancement complies with federal regulations mandating “multi-factor authentication” for online account access.

Q: Why did Bay Federal choose this additional security feature?

After reviewing the federal guidelines for multi-factor authentication, we evaluated available solutions. After extensive research, we are confident that this new feature provides the highest level of security and is the least intrusive solution for our members. By design, multi-factor authentication is meant to provide an additional layer of security to protect you, which can mean some extra steps. However, unlike other solutions that may require additional hardware or software or even require you to answer Challenge Response Questions every time you bank online, we believe this new feature provides the highest security with the least amount of inconvenience to you.

Q: What if this new feature doesn’t recognize my typing rhythm when I login?

If you have entered the correct user name and password, but the system is still unable to recognize your typing rhythm, you will be asked to answer one of your Challenge Response Questions in order to successfully log in.

Q: What if I share the same member number/user name and password with another person on my account?

For your protection, our new security feature only authenticates one typing rhythm for each member number/user name and password. You may still login using the same member number/user name and password, but you will be prompted to answer a Challenge Response Question. To avoid these questions, it is best to establish separate user names and passwords for each joint owner. If you wish to establish separate user names and passwords, please call 831.479.6000 or toll-free 888.4BAYFED, option 3. You may also visit one of our branch locations.

Q: What if I forget the answers to my challenge questions?

You will have the opportunity to answer one of five challenge questions correctly before the system prevents you from logging in. This is a security measure to prevent unauthorized access to your accounts. If you are unable to access BayFedOnline, please contact us at 831.479.6000 or 888.4BAYFED, option 3 for assistance.

Q: Am I required to use challenge questions? Can I opt out of this feature?

We believe that Challenge Response Questions are the least intrusive form of “multi-factor authentication”, which Federal regulation mandates all banks and credit unions support. The use of this feature adds an additional layer of protection to your BayFedOnline account(s). Federal regulations do not allow individual members to opt out of this security feature.

Q: Why am I being prompted to download Flash?

Bay Federal’s new security feature requires the latest version of Adobe® Flash® Player*. If you do not have Adobe® Flash® Player installed on your computer, or need to upgrade your version, you can download it for free by visiting www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer. For your convenience, we have installed a link to download Adobe® Flash® Player on the sign-on page of BayFedOnline.

If you regularly access BayFedOnline from a computer at your workplace, you may need to coordinate with your system administrator to have Adobe® Flash® Player installed.

Q: What web browser versions are supported with the new security features?

Windows compatible browsers include Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0+, Firefox 2.0+, Netscape 7.0+, AOL 8.0+ and Opera 9.0+.

Mac OS X 10.4 and later compatible browsers include Safari 2.0+, Firefox 2.0+ and Opera 9.0+.

Safari under Mac OS X 10.3.9 and earlier is not compatible with Bay Federal's security enhancements. In this case, we recommend Firefox 2, Camino 1.6+, or Opera 9.0+.

Camino - http://caminobrowser.org/
Opera - http://www.opera.com/
Firefox - http://www.getfirefox.com/
Firefox 2.0.0.20 for Mac OS X 10.3.9 - http://releases.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/2.0.0.20/mac/en-US/ (direct link to download page).

Q: I’m not able to access BayFedOnline using my mobile phone. What happened?

Our security feature requires Adobe® Flash® Player to access the features of BayFedOnline. Unfortunately, mobile phone web browsers do not support Adobe® Flash® Player at this time. In the meantime, you will need to access BayFedOnline by computer only, or utilize BayPhone, our telephone banking solution. Rest assured, Bay Federal Credit Union is actively seeking true mobile banking solutions to serve you!

To learn more, call us at 831.479.6000 or toll-free at 888.4BAYFED, option 3.
