With the final merger of Coast-Tel Federal Credit Union into Bay Federal Credit Union occurring this weekend, we want to let you know what you can expect during this process. We made every effort to minimize the impact to you, our valued member. It is important to note that some account access may be temporarily interrupted while we complete the merger. We appreciate your patience as we work through the transition of your accounts.
Here is an overview of what you can expect in the coming days:
The Coast-Tel Online Banking system will be unavailable as of Friday, June 28 at 1 PM. After the merger is complete on July 1, you can register for Bay Federal’s online banking system and set up services you wish to use, such as Bill Pay, eStatements, etc.
Credit, Debit, & ATM Cards
You may continue to use your Coast-Tel Credit, Debit, and/or ATM Card through Sunday, June 30. There is a slight possibility that service could be intermittent during the weekend. We recommend carrying another form of payment or cash if you are traveling. You may begin using your new Bay Federal cards on July 1.
Our branch will be closed on Saturday, June 29. We will re-open the branch for normal business hours on Monday, July 1, as Bay Federal Credit Union.

Coast-Tel Federal Credit Union and Bay Federal Credit Union Announce Intent to Merge
I would like to extend a warm welcome to the members of Coast-Tel Federal Credit Union! I appreciate that you’ve chosen to learn more about us and the recent announcement of Coast-Tel Federal Credit Union’s intent to merge with Bay Federal Credit Union.
We are excited to pursue this merger opportunity with Coast-Tel Federal Credit Union. Both organizations started as a vision of a few coworkers who pooled their financial resources together to help one another in the 1950s. This philosophy of ‘people helping people’ remains true and strong today, and is evidenced in the work and collaboration among Credit Unions.
Coast-Tel Federal Credit Union President and CEO, Judy Meyers, announced her intentions to retire after nearly 50 years of dedicated service to Coast-Tel. As you may be aware, the Coast-Tel Board of Directors began the search process for a new CEO several years ago, however, the position has been difficult to fill. This, combined with the increasingly complex and competitive financial services landscape, led the Board of Directors of Coast-Tel Federal Credit Union to conclude that it would be in the best interest of the credit union, and all of our members, to find a merger partner that could enhance the services you enjoy from Coast-Tel today.
Following significant discussions and evaluation, the Board of Directors at Coast-Tel Federal Credit Union have entered into a merger agreement with Bay Federal Credit Union. We are very honored to have been selected to serve you!
Our friends at Coast-Tel have been a great partner over the years. This merger opportunity enables us to provide enhanced services to all of Coast-Tel’s membership with your long-term best interests in mind. Bay Federal’s focus on providing excellent member service, active community involvement, and collaborative culture are a natural fit. Moreover, as part of our intended merger agreement, the team at Coast-Tel will continue to serve you at the same location in Salinas!
We believe that this partnership will be mutually beneficial, and will provide even greater options to your collective membership. We are looking forward to welcoming Coast-Tel Federal Credit Union members into our family, and expanding our branch network to better serve all of our members throughout the Salinas-Monterey area. We are committed to investing in our partnership and our community for years to come.
I’ve had the distinct pleasure of working alongside Judy for several decades, and her passion for serving her members is unwavering and inspiring. As she prepares for her retirement, please know the team at Bay Federal Credit Union is working diligently to ensure a smooth transition should the merger be approved. We will keep you informed every step of the way! We have prepared some common resources for you below!
We are honored to begin this journey with you.
