General FAQ
We’re introducing a refreshed suite of checking options to provide options for every member’s financial situation. These new accounts provide greater flexibility, lower fees, and helpful features for members at every stage of their Bay Federal journey.
All new checking accounts and updated terms went into effect on November 1, 2025.
No action is needed. If your current checking account has changed, you may continue to use it as always. Your account information is the same as before. You may also open one of our new accounts anytime as of November 1, 2025.
BayChecking*
BayChecking remains our classic account, but with simplified updates:
- Simple Monthly Fee waiver with direct deposit over $500 OR 10+ debit transactions
- Lower overdraft fee of $20 (was $30)
- Expanded debit card limits
- Can cover unexpected overdrafts through Courtesy Pay coverage.
Horizon Checking (formerly Interest Checking)*
The new name reflects the expanded features and benefits on the horizon for members who keep higher balances.
The Horizon Checking now provides APY bonuses to members, ATM fees waived, and other new benefits.
- ATM fee refunds at non-BayFed/CO-OP ATMs (up to $25/month)
- .50% APY bonus on Titanium Savings (with eStatements, $1,000+ direct deposit, and 15+ debit transactions)
- Lower overdraft fee of $20 (was $30)
- Our highest debit card limits
- Expanded Courtesy Pay limits
HarborLight Checking*
It’s a simple account designed to help members stay on budget, without the hassle of checks, and with zero overdraft fees.
There is a $5 monthly fee, which can be waived with any direct deposit or 10+ debit card transactions per month.
No, this account is designed for debit card use only.
No, HarborLight checking accounts cannot go into the negative, and there are no overdraft fees.
BayTeen Checking*
Teens ages 11–17 are eligible. Open a BayTeen Checking account with your teenager (or pre-teen) and help them build responsible money management habits.
No! The BayTeen Checking cannot go negative, so there are no overdraft or transfer fees.
Yes. Teens may establish a debit card with your permission.
